Thank you, Amanda….I struggled all morning with what to write to my dearest friend to calm her anxiety about all this without sounding like a “know-it-all been there, done that”, Mommy. Jessica, Simon is tougher than you think. He will survive this. If pre-school at Keneseth Israel is the worst thing you’ve done to him so far, you’re doing pretty well! :) Hang in there. This too shall pass.

Honey, Simon will be fine. Let Simon be Simon. And he is smart! You don’t need comparisons. If you started speaking Hebrew to him he’d pick it up too, they’re sponges at that age. Relax, everything will be fine, you are great parents and have a great kid!

My little brother (now 40!) walked on his tippy toes from starting to walk until he was about 10. Not sure why, but he looked like Baryshnikov.

D’oh! Forgot about the cheese thing. Correction posted! The general spirit is still true, though. Just a few days later he gobbled up a cinnamon bun that I could not get through (too sweet), and all I could think was, “Honey, one day you and your Uncle Ian are going to have a swell time together.”

I’m left handed and I’ve always felt “special” (in the good way). The biggest issues are as follows:

-no one ever thinks to show you how to bowl/hit a baseball/play tennis/etc. left handed, so you end up being taught the right handed way, and are more likely to suck at it.
-you can’t use those eraseable pens.
-you must use scissors with your right hand unless you have some of those crazy hard-to-get left handed scissors.

There was some cognitive research that showed that the right and left hemispheres of left handers’ brains were more tightly integrated. They posited that this is why left handers were better at tasks that required both right and left brain function (e.g., music) but were more accident-prone, as their more intetrated brains were not as good at multi-tasking.

Note that both Jon Stewart and Barack Obama are left handed. That’s good enough for me.
